ENERGY EFFICIENT UPGRADES

Insulation and ventilation for efficient energy usage and elimination of energy wastage

WHAT IS LOFT INSULATION

The amount of heat lost through the roof of a property totals around 25%.

That is a huge figure when you think about it, and it’s costly too. Heat is not cheap and more and more people are looking for ways in which to make their property more energy-efficient. The best place to start is with loft insulation.

Therefore, as a quarter of heat is lost through the roof in an uninsulated home, insulating your loft, an attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills. Loft insulation is effective for at least 40 years and it will undoubtedly pay for itself many times over. If you are eligible and able to take advantage of the current Government-sponsored schemes it is a “WIN-WIN” and a not to be missed opportunity.

The process used for loft insulation is quick, easy and the cost of having it installed is also extremely affordable. It is no surprise that loft insulation is one of the first step people take in order to improve the energy efficiency of their property. Loft insulation is simple but most effective and ensures that the heat is retained within your property, meaning that your central heating system doesn’t have to work as hard.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY BENEFITS OF LOFT INSULATION

Z

Adding or increasing your existing loft insulation to the recommended depth of 270mm is a great way to reduce your own personal impact on the environment.

Z

During the hotter months of Summer your insulation will essentially help to stop your home from overheating.

Z

Loft insulation works as a barrier to heat exchange between the inside and outside environments – you are likely to save money on energy bills as a result

Z

Making sure that your home is properly insulated may increase the value for your home

Home insulation via the loft and walls will act as a barrier to noise, making your home a more relaxing place to be

WHAT IS CAVITY WALL INSULATION?

Apart from the roof of your property, the walls are the largest building surfaces that can cause heat loss.

As energy costs continue to rise and households strive to become as energy efficient as possible, Cavity Wall Insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways of reducing your heating bills.

A typical household with Cavity Wall Insulation can save over £100 per year on energy bills. Without it, up to a third of the heat in your home will be escaping through your walls. With energy suppliers increasing their prices Cavity Wall Insulation will help you to reduce your energy bills and stop wasting money on heating the air outside.

If you act fast, you could also claim a Government-backed grant to cover all or most of the installation cost.

Filling wall cavities with insulation can dramatically reduce heat loss through the walls of your property – leading to large savings on energy bills. It is a simple, practical way in which to save money on energy bills.

Z

In the summer it also provides a barrier against heat gain, so it also helps keep your property cooler during those summer months – another welcome advantage that a lot of people don’t foresee.

With energy bills constantly rising and the temperature dropping, here’s your chance to take advantage of free funding for insulation improvements through the ECO (Energy Company Obligation) and affordable warmth scheme.

WHAT IS ROOM IN ROOF INSULATION?

If you have an unused room or space in your roof, insulation can be a great way to make use of the space and improve your home’s energy efficiency. Room in roof insulation can help to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer, reducing your energy bills and making your home more comfortable to live in. There are many different types of room in roof insulation available, so it’s important to choose the right one for your needs. Here are some of the benefits of room in roof insulation:

– Improved energy efficiency: Room in roof insulation can help to reduce heat loss through the walls and ceiling, making your home more energy efficient. This can lead to lower energy bills a

Improved comfort: Room in roof insulation can help to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer, making it more comfortable to live in.

Z

Reduced noise: Room in roof insulation can also help to reduce noise from outside, making your home more peaceful and relaxing.

Z

Easy to install: Many types of room in roof insulation are straightforward to install so we can get the job done for you in minimal time and during other required building works too.

If you’re thinking about insulating your loft space these are just some of the benefits you can enjoy. Insulation is a great way to improve the energy efficiency of your home and make it more comfortable to live in.

INTERNAL WALL INSULATION

If you live in an older home, insulation for internal walls is a great way to improve energy efficiency and reduce your heating costs. internal wall insulation is attached to the inside of your external walls much like plasterboard. It is then plastered over, creating an extra layer of insulation. This will improve the thermal efficiency of your home and therefore reduce your energy bills accordingly.

Internal wall insulation is an ideal solution for solid wall homes built before the 20th century which do not have a cavity in between 2 brick skin walls. Whilst external wall insulation is an option, internal wall insulation is a more cost-effective option. This option can eat into floor space (through the creation of internal stud walls) so this should be considered when making your decision.

EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION

Insulation for external walls involves the application of a decorative, protective layer of insulation to the outside of a property which is then topped off with a reinforced finish or render and then plastered.

Like internal wall insulation, it is a solution for homes with solid external walls where cavity wall insulation is not an option. External wall insulation will improve the thermal efficiency of a property and therefore reduce energy bills.

Unlike internal wall insulation, external solutions do not cause disruption whilst being installed and do not alter any internal room dimensions either. It will also allow external walls to contribute to thermal mass, improve weatherproofing, reduce noise pollution and increase the life of the wall.

External wall insulation has a higher installation cost than its internal counterpart due to the erection of scaffolding and removal and replacement of external pipework, cables and fittings. This is offset against the aforementioned benefits.
